Bento
Place is a fast-food outlet in Singapore that specialises in the
popular Japanese Bento, Donburi (rice bowls), Ramen and Udon meals. We are located at the
basement of Caltex House, Raffles Place.
The origin of Japanese Bento can be traced back to the late
Kamakura Period (1185
to
1333), when cooked and dried rice called hoshi-ii
(糒
or
干し飯,
literally "dried meal") was developed. In the
Azuchi-Momoyama Period, wooden lacquered boxes like
today's were produced and the Bento would be eaten during a
hanami or a tea party.
Takeaway Bento is already a phenomenon in Japan and is fast
gaining popularity in other parts of the world. It serves
as an economic, fast and balanced meal for many people,
especially the busy working professionals.
At
Bento Place, we aim to create a good variety of Japanese
dishes that will cater to the preferences of different
individuals.
